In the slavic folklore, strzygas are very similar to vampires. They feed on human blood and flesh, and are said to have bird like features, since they're able to transform into owls at night. You could either be born a strzyga (if a child was born with two souls) or become one, often as a result of a sudden and tragic death. Especially if you are a maiden about to be married...
